Save Money and The Planet
This is one of the biggest reasons that people choose to bike to work. They are able to save money on gas and road wear on their vehicle.
Others think about the environmental factors of biking. The less you drive your car, the more you reduce your carbon footprint.
Build a Healthier Lifestyle
Most of us do not get enough exercise in a day, especially if you work in an office. Biking to work is a practical way to increase your daily movements. This will get your heart rate up along with tone your body.
Can Make You Feel Happier
With increased exercise, your serotonin levels rise. Serotonin causes you to feel happier. Not only do you increase your hormone levels, but you also receive the benefits of sunshine. Getting out in the fresh air and soaking up the sun is a great way to boost your mood.
IT'S FUN! Cycling to work is tons of fun, so besides just making you happier, on your way to work you'll be having a blasty blast.
Tips For When Biking to Work
If you are in a position to cycle to your place of employment, here are some tips for you.
- Play it safe- be sure you are practicing safe bike riding. Use hand signals to tell traffic around you which way you plan to turn. Use bike lanes and sidewalks when possible.
- Wear the right shoes- if you work in a professional environment, your shoes may not be suitable for biking. Wear a pair of tennis shoes to bike and carry your work shoes.
- Make yourself visible- even if you get off during the day, it is important to make yourself visible. Wear bright clothing or a reflective strap so that people can see you. Put reflectors on your bike or a light.
